Easter celebrated in style

The pupils, staff and governors of Longhoughton CofE First School celebrated Easter early with a service that took place both in school and at St Peter & St Paul’s Church, on Wednesday 1st April.Palm Sunday

The service began in school with Reverend Peter Sutcliffe telling the children the story of Palm Sunday. The congregation sang ‘We have a King who rides a donkey’ whilst waving palm leaves that the children had made earlier in the week.

The whole school then processed up to church, led by ‘the donkey’ from the story (Harry, a Shetland pony, from Lowsteads Farm). The children continued to wave their palm leaves as they walked to church. Once in church the congregation swapped their palm leaves for a palm cross and sang ‘We have a King who rides a donkey’ again.donkey procession

The service continued in church with Rev. Peter telling the rest of the Easter story. The school choir supported the telling of Good Friday with their beautiful singing of ‘When I think about the cross’.
The service culminated with the congregation singing ‘Celebrate’ to mark the joy of Easter Day.

It was wonderful to celebrate this festive time together as a school in church.
