Australia

Please note that France class has changed its name to Australia class as of September 2009.

France Class had a busy half term in Autumn 2. We started off with a fantastic school trip to The Forest School at Howick Gardens with Richard Wood. The children had to work together as a team in order to achieve a goal, a very challenging task for anyone - but especially so when you are only 5 or 6 years old. The children excelled themselves and learnt how to negotiate and take it in turns, with everyone contributing in order to be successful. We had our lunch al fresco and sampled some delicious rice cooked on the campfire (the best we had ever tasted) as well as some jungle tea to warm us up. After completing our activities, we shared our experiences sitting around the campfire. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves (adults as well as children) and we can hardly wait for our next visit in the Spring.

The children also had a visit from Alnwick Fire and Rescue to help them with their learning about the Great Fire of London. They saw the equipment used to put out fires today and compared them with those used in 1666. They also found out what firemen need to wear to keep themselves safe in a fire. Afterwards all the children went outside to look at the fire engine and have a go of using the big fire hose.

Finally, the children all worked really hard on the Christmas Nativity Play. They made us all very proud with their wonderful acting and beautiful singing. It was quite an accomplishment to learn so many songs in such a short amount of time.

We are looking forward to next half term, when we will be having more exciting trips and visitors to help us with our learning.
